Israeli diplomat car attack case: SC grants bail to Kazmi
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Syed Mohammad Ahmed Kazmi, a journalist who has been behind bars since March 6 in the Israeli diplomat car attack case. A bench headed by Chief Justice Altamas Kabir granted bail and directed Kazmi to deposit his passport before the authority concerned.
The bench passed the order on Kazmi’s plea challenging the Delhi high court order dismissing his appeal for bail.

When the news reached Kazmi in Tihar Jail, his first words were, “justice has prevailed,” said his wife Jahan Ara, who visited him on Friday afternoon. Jahan Ara said Kazmi wept on hearing the news. “He said bail is just the first relief we have received from the judiciary — in the coming days the same courts will prove his innocence, inshallah”.
Kazmi reportedly offered special thanksgiving prayers for his bail after his routine jumma namaaz. He will be released from Tihar by Saturday evening. His two sons — Shauzab and Taurab — can’t wait for the moment.
“In the seven months my father has spent in jail, I have matured faster than ever. The innumerable visits that I have made to police stations, courtrooms and Tihar Jail have taught me so much about life,” said Shauzab (23), an MBA.
Taurab, who scored 88% in his Class XII boards even after his father’s arrest on March 6 — two days before his accountancy exam — is keen to show his marksheet. “Had I not done well, he would have been most disappointed,” said Taurab, who is studying BCom (H) at a south Delhi college.
